Gijs Dijkhuizen started playing music at the age of six, classical piano and later also cello. At the age of twelve Gijs started to play the drums. He graduated at the conservatory of Amsterdam, where he studied from 1994 until 1999. His teachers were Gerhard Jeltes, Marcel Serierse and Cees Kranenburg. He got masterclasses, from Bill Stewart, Jeff Hamilton, Horatio ‘El Negro’ Hernandez and Joey LaBarbera. In 2001 he followed a jazz-course in New York with “The B&W Quintet”.

His main influences are Art Blakey, Elvin Jones and Philly Joe Jones. In his professional career Gijs Dijkhuizen played with many different groups like: Ruud Jacobs Quintet, The Peter Beets Trio, The Beets Brothers, The Jazz Orchestra of the Concertgebouw, The World Famous Glenn Miller Orchestra, Sjoerd Dijkhuizen Quartet, The Hague All Stars, The Ben van den Dungen Quartet, The Dolf de Vries Trio, The Hans Dulfer Band, The Reeds, The Erik Doelman Quartet, and many more.

He did tours in: USA, Germany, Sweden, Norway, Finland, Switzerland, Poland, Czech Republic, Austria, Italy, India, Denmark, Spain, Thailand, Croatia, Ukraine, Indonesia, South Korea, Japan and Russia.

Gijs Dijkhuizen played concerts with various artists like: Michael Brecker, Georgie Fame, Deborah Brown, Frank Morgan, Tom KirkPatrick, Madeline Bell, Lonnie Smith, Herb Geller, Ferdinand Povel, Rita Reys, Jesse van Ruller, Bob Malach, Rein de Graaff, Benjamin Herman, Martijn van Iterson, Henk Meutgeert, Marius Beets, Ben van den Dungen.
